Fruit Free Isogest Formula
Maximum Spectrum Enzym Complete/DPPIV Fruit Free Isogest Formula is Kirkman's newest enzyme product. It is free of fruit derived enzymes such as bromelain, kiwi, and papaya which on occasion cause certain individuals sensitivity issues. In addition to being fruit free, this product differs from Kirkman's Enzyme Complete II Isogest formula, by including additional disaccharidase enzyme activity to more completely breakdown complex disaccharides and carbohydrates such as sugars and starches to the monosaccharides glucose and fructose. This could be an important factor for those on the SCD diet in the event of dietary infractions.
The disaccharidase enzymes in this new product with increased concentrations include lactase for additional lactose digestion, maltase for additional maltose digestion, glucoamylase for polysaccharide and starch digestion, and IsogestT, Kirkman's exclusive specialty enzyme for addressing isomaltase insufficiency. Kirkman products are the only commercially available enzyme products containing this isomaltase activity.
The importance of this missing enzyme fraction was confirmed in January 2004 by R. Kushak, Ph. D. and T. Buie, MD of Massachusetts General Children's Hospital in an intestinal biopsy study involving 100 special needs children. The study showed that 60% of these patients had weak lactase activity and 25-45% had weak isomaltase/palatinase activity, which evidenced their special dietary need for an enzyme providing isomaltase/palatinase activity. Similar results were noted in an October 2005 paper in the Journal of Pediatric Gastroenterology and Nutrition published by Kushak, Winter, Farber, and Buie of Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, MA, indicating a need for additional carbohydrase enzymes in special needs situations.
